…the former things shall not be remembered

“For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth, and the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create; for behold, I create Jerusalem to be a joy, and her people to be a gladness. I will rejoice in Jerusalem and be glad in my people; no more shall be heard in it the sound of weeping and the cry of distress.” Isaiah 65:17-19

Can you imagine a day where all the former things in your life that have brought pain and heartache will be remembered no more and the Lord’s joy will be brought to full fruition in your soul. Some of us are so bound by grief, deep disappointment, or regret, that when we hear the word joy it just creates more longing and it just seems to deepen the pain. I want to speak to you today – those that want to be set free from pain and just cant seem to find their way out.

God has created the human heart to be filled with Him. Certainly, He wants us to love deeply the people that He has placed in our lives, find fulfillment in the work that our hands find to do, and to enjoy the blessings that He bestows. However, none of those things can fill the needs within our souls of wholeness, purposefulness, and rest. There is only One who embodies the very essence of our existence and His name is Jesus!

For some of us, our journey started out in great joy as we learned that serving Jesus was what our hearts truly longed for and we began to find our place in the Kingdom. But as we walked along our appointed path, the trials and tribulations that were surely to come became more than we bargained for. Grief, loss, and disillusionment began to creep in and before long we found ourselves unable to not shrink back and lick our wounds a bit. But, as we allowed a place for self-protection, we began to try to self-medicate by filling the holes in our souls with anything that would make the pain stop. Now certainly, I am not talking about filling these holes with immorality because we truly love the Lord, its just that we are hurting and we need something to take our minds off the tragic events in our lives. Maybe its food, shopping, friends, sometimes its just busyness because when we are still we are so very aware of our pain.

Let me say this to you – God is your healer! But there is only one way to experience that taste of heaven where our joy is made complete and its in complete surrender to the Holy Spirit of God. Whatever you are filling the void with must be put in its proper place and you must, through the enabling power of the Holy Spirit, step back onto the path that the Lord has designed for you. Sometimes the pains of this life are truly blessings in disguise because they thrust us toward a dependence upon God that we could not have accomplished on our own.

You need to know that the devil will try every tactic he knows to pull you into lesser things to fill the pain in your heart, but there is only one source of joy and its only found in one place – obedience and surrender to the Holy Spirit. Precious sojourner in Christ, Jesus came to proclaim liberty to the captive, bind up the broken-hearted, and open the prisons of those that are bound. You need to believe that He is all that you need in order to find joy again. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. By faith, through the power of the Holy Spirit, you can live in such a way that you experience a taste of the heavenly things here on earth. Around the Throne, there is no weeping or crying. There is no pain, or sorrow. And through the power of the Holy Spirit, Jesus says enter into my Father’s love so that you can find rest for your weary souls as you complete your journey home.

Let Him loose you. Let Him heal you. Let Him love you.
